Network Policy

Your institution's network policy

The following principles have been established to be applied in internet support services to be provided by the IT Department at our university.

Scope:

Ensuring the uninterrupted, fast, and healthy operation of the internet service allocated to users by the University for academic purposes within the framework of Law No. 5651 determined by the laws of the Republic of Turkey.

Articles:

  • Technical support service will be provided to users by the IT Department. This service will primarily be provided over the campus internal network or internet. In case of no network connection, phone and/or on-site support will be provided.
  • Users are assumed to know and be familiar with the computers and computer programs they use. Technical support service does not include teaching the use of software and providing guidance for the work to be done.
  • Every user who wants to benefit from Izmir Tinaztepe University (IZTU) Internet service can connect to the eduroam broadcast from the Wi-Fi connection broadcasts of the device they want to connect with their e-mail address and password.
  • Administrative/Academic staff must enter the e-mail username and password allocated to them during registration in order to be included in the WIFI Internet network. Users who do not enter a username and password cannot receive internet service. The user is responsible for all traffic that will be made with the username and password allocated to the user. Users who have lost/stolen their username or password should apply to the IT Department.
  • The connection service is personal and cannot be transferred or shared with another user. Users receiving service are responsible for the device they connect to the network and for any irregular actions made with these devices.
  • Any software, movies, music, etc. files protected by copyright law cannot be downloaded or distributed via the IZTU Network by any method. All legal responsibility for this matter belongs to the user.
  • Traffic directed to sites containing inappropriate and disturbing material (Pornographic, Vandalism, Satanism, Gambling, Hack, Crack, Warez, etc.) is prohibited under Law No. 5651.
  • It is forbidden to create traffic on the Izmir Tinaztepe University Network that will not allow others to use it.
  • It is strictly forbidden for the user to attempt to cause any damage to a system, network resource, or service within or outside the Izmir Tinaztepe University Network with attack-oriented port scanning, packet listening, etc. applications.
  • Users cannot use unlicensed operating systems and software on computers allocated by Izmir Tinaztepe University. Users of operating systems requiring a license are required to regularly update their computer's security and operating system patches. Users of operating systems requiring a license are required to install antivirus software on their computers.
  • Izmir Tinaztepe University Network resources cannot be used for personal gain and profit.
  • It is forbidden to send mass e-mails such as mail bombing, spam, etc. using Izmir Tinaztepe University Network resources, or to allow third parties to send them.
  • External PROXY, DHCP, DNS, etc. content services cannot be provided from user computers on the Izmir Tinaztepe University Network.
  • Peer-to-peer, "P2P" file sharing programs, in addition to violating copyrights and licenses, consume high bandwidth, leaving no resources for academic and educational network usage. Therefore, the use of all "peer-to-peer" file sharing tools listed below, but not limited to, is strictly prohibited. (KaZaA, iMesh, eDonkey2000, Gnutella, Napster, Aimster, Madster, FastTrack, Audiogalaxy, MFTP, eMule, Overnet, NeoModus, Direct Connect, Acquisition, BearShare, Gnucleus, GTK-Gnutella, LimeWire, Mactella, Morpheus, Phex, Qtella, Shareaza, XoLoX, OpenNap, WinMX, DC++, BitTorrent, etc.)
  • It is strictly forbidden for users to set static IP on their computers.
  • Users do not need to make any settings on their computers to benefit from the Izmir Tinaztepe University network. For this reason, the access of users who knowingly or unknowingly change connection settings and prevent other users' internet access will be closed.
  • It is forbidden for users to use external proxy or tunnel in the Izmir Tinaztepe University network.
  • Changes and problems related to Izmir Tinaztepe University network connections will be announced to users' Izmir Tinaztepe University e-mail addresses. Announcements made to this address will be considered to have reached the user.
  • When the user leaves Izmir Tinaztepe University, their account is automatically closed after 15 days.

Penal Practices:

In case of detection of non-compliance with the above article or articles, one or more of the following penalties will be applied.

  • Network connections will be cut by Izmir Tinaztepe University IT Department officials without notifying the user. In case of repeated rule violations, the network connection will be cut for one month, and if continued, for an academic term.
  • Investigation mechanisms within the university will be activated.
  • Judicial mechanisms will be activated.
